I got involved with Mudlark when I was in 4th grade, and it redefined children’s theater for me. I got to collaborate with outstanding kids, phenomenal directors, and the amazing staff. I also got to express myself and find what it means to be human through portraying another character. To put yourself in someone else's shoes is an act of sympathy and empathy that is unique to theater. It helps the actor to reflect what they've learned into their daily lives. I’ve been lucky to spend 7 years with an amazing ensemble and if you wish to support theater in Evanston, please consider giving to the festival. All proceeds support our new Diversity Initiative, a partnership with The Art of Evolution Theatre Company that will create new opportunities for children of color to participate in Mudlark programs. It will help ensure that more kids can have the same life changing experience as me.

​Led by Mudlark's Youth Board and staff, "Shakespeare is Dead" is Mudlark's annual 24-Hour Play Festival: an evening of 10-minute plays written, directed and performed by young actors in just 24 hours! All proceeds will be donated to The Diversity Initiative, a new fund that provides opportunities for actors from The Art of Evolution Theatre Company of Evanston (AETC), a nonprofit organization that introduces children of color to meaningful theater experiences, to participate in Mudlark programming from summer camps to a collaborative production with AETC that will premiere in the fall of 2017.
